Spice Girl – Dance of the Carrots

Carrots

I had not eaten a vegetable all day.  That is very odd for me, as I usually have a salad at lunch and at least a veggie side with dinner.  My body was in a little bit of shock about that. So naturally, I had the most adorable dream about carrots.  It was just a brief dream.  The carrots were organic rainbow baby carrots with the leafy stems still in tact. I remember craving a raw vegetable the first time traveling in Europe, something crunchy, un-edited farm fresh. At the time, that was hard to find. But tonight I decided to roast the carrots with a little olive oil and  some spices.    A little rosemary, cumin, a dash of turmeric, and what’s in this last little jar?  I lightly sprinkle from the jar labeled “dancer”.  Dancer Spice!  I had a dream about dancer spice.  -smile-  Just a little dash, a little sprinkle of magic to make my toes point and my spirit soar.

Whispers in the Dark

Image

“But fingers tap into what you were once
And I’m worried that I blew my only chance

Whispers in the dark
Steal a kiss and you’ll break your heart
Pick up your clothes and curl your toes
Learn your lesson, lead me home”

~ Mumford & Sons lyrics to Whispers in the Dark

Tossy – Turny kind of night, sheets all in a swirl. Gripping the pillow, attempting to tether to sleep.

Just ordinary routine, I pull into the driveway and angle to park the car.  BOOM! I hit the side of the garage,

I awaken with a jolt.  Did we have an earthquake?

More restless thoughts and attempts at sleep… Did my car roll into the ditch? Was I in a fight?

Did I feel anger, resentment or worry about something left un-done or un-said?

Finally, with heavy head – daylight breaks.

My fingers are lightly tap tap tapping on my eyelids.  I am sure when I look in the mirror I will have a huge inflamed

black eye….  but I don’t.  Not even a spider bite.  Just a little puffy from the salty meal the night before.

I blame it on the Gochujang – Korean pepper paste, so delicious on pork, chicken or just about anything!

Image

Drinking lots of water today… water with lemon and ginger…. water with fizzy…. pure spring…. watermelon fresca….. ahhhh

If It’s Not Too Late, Make it a Cheeseburger

Image

I’ve been watching a ton of New Orleans Jazz Fest on AXS TV this weekend.

Fully expecting for strands of zydeco, funk and blues to slip into my sub-conscious.

So far, the only song that lodged in my brain is Lyle Lovett’s “Here I am”

If you haven’t ever heard that song, definitely take a look at the linked video.

I think this stuck in my head more than any other tune I heard, because L.L.

is such a wordsmith.  Check out the full lyrics.

I was not at Jazz Fest in reality or in sleep.  It was just an annoying little dream about

not being able to connect.  Not being able to say what I mean, in the right way,

materialized as mobile cell service not cooperating well.

Who was I was calling?

“Can you hear me now?”, “Do we have access? “, “Where are you?”,

“Can you hear me now?”,

“Look I understand too little to late

I realize there are things you say and do

You can never take back

But what would be if you didn’t even try?

You have to try

So after a lot of thought

I’d like to reconsider

Please if it’s not to late….

Make it a cheeseburger.”

~ Lyle Lovett

Castles in the Sand

Image

I’ve always wanted to host a family reunion in Hawaii.  NOT going to happen, so that is why I dreamed about it instead.

We were all there, feeling the island breezes, sand between the toes, kids running around and splashing in the waves,

making castles in the sand, everyone….. just  r e l a x i n g

Image

Wait…. who is that kid with the poodle hair?  All wet and curly, shaking off the sea, like a dog.

Oh, that must not actually have been his hair…

And then there was the food!

Image

I was roasting a turkey with pineapple and ginger, it smelled intoxicating.

Did you know the pineapple is the international symbol for hospitality?

I have stayed in a Hawaiian hotel with pineapples carved into the bedposts, so Victorian, but cool.

A pineapple in a dream may represent success… or in my case, just a craving!

I wasn’t aware of this sauce by Stonewall Kitchen before, I must try this.

Well, weirdly enough, the dream ended before I had any real connection or conversation with my siblings,

which I am sure, was the intent and message of the dream to begin with.

I must make some phone calls.  And book a flight!

“…dreamt a perfect dream and it all fell down
oh, just tell me we’re happy,
just building castles in the sand, just building castles in the sand…”
